blue vs. brown

Here's one for anyone with an opinion.

The issue I'm facing with this is that while the blue was my original impulse, the brown seems to resolve some things that bothered me about the blue but I still like the blue.

If you like, please leave a comment with your vote and reason for liking either. Or neither.

Lookin like a great start, Cory. I like em both as well. What if you left used teh blow for the forground (guy, water, etc) and used the warmer version for the dragon and the background. Or perhaps inverse that. No reason it has to be completely on or the other, no?

Whilst the blue version is still stunning to look at, I think the warmer tones of the brown version help focus the attention and really make the composition work.

Love your work by the way - thanks for sharing!

love them both but i think the cooler tones of the blues goes a bit better with the "water Monster" theme.

It was hard to choose, but I like the brown better. It's warmer and that appeals to my eyes.

As an aside, I have recommended you on my blog as part of BlogDay2008.

The blue one is looking more like flat but also blue one seems really "different" from other works by "Dragony" theme in first look! so I'll vote for BLUE sure! maybe alil more contrast to make dept btw, :\

Brown has the focus where it should be. The blue version has nicer colours but the brownish patches break up the composition. My vote would be the brown, or a more defined blue.

Great piece!

blue feels nicer but brown works better. I think you should tinker with bringing some of the browns into the figure and foreground of the blue piece.

may sound obvious, but the brown one feels like a dragon surrounded by flames. If you want a dragon under a cascade... blue.
Anyway, awesome stuff, mister!!!!!!

I think the brown feels warmer so I read the lighter areas as steam off the body of a fire breathing beast. The blue makes those same areas feel cool and read as spray from the waterfall.
I think the brown makes the dragon seem more threatening somehow. Hope that's helpful.

I really like the blue version. It has a great atmosphere, it 'feels' more like a humid cave under a waterfall.
