"Oliphaunt"

I'm very happy to show my first published Tolkien illustration.

It was done for Highlights, the most recognized and respected kids' magazine in the galaxy.

January 2010 issue.

And here's the actual piece.

I'm honored to be able to join the ranks of Tolkien illustrators, even in this very small way, and for such a wonderful client as Highlights.

I used to get Highlights as a kid, and I've still got all the old issues. They always used that rough paper and the ink bled just a little. Love it! Your Oliphaunt looks big... just the way a Middle Earthling one would. Great job man!

P.S. You should've drawn Legolas scaling the side of him, but then again that might not be highly appreciated given the context :)

* Thanks Kyle!

* I know, Loren, I used to write my own "Goofus and Gallant"s with my cousin.

* Will, yeah I love the paper, feels classic.

* Nick, They asked.

I am taking an illustration class at GMU, and our first assignment was to find an illustration we liked in a magazine and then find the webpage of the illustrator.

I searched for a LONG time, but finally saw Oliphaunt and loved it - bought a copy of Highlights. I've since looked at your online work and fell in love with it as well :D Gotta write a paper on you now...
