Over the course of reference gathering for this project I came across a statistic that I couldn't ignore. A hundred years ago there were 100,000 tigers in the wild. Today there are as few as 3,200. The first Renaissance Baire is so expressive, he looks exaclty like what a real bear could have looked like if he had lived during the renaissance (and was intelligent, I guess).
