about Sunday evening

Kitty in the kitchen.

This box of Cherrios has been there for 4 days partially open. I got a handful last night and to my surprise it went "crunch, crunch." Cherrios are not of this earth.

Lost is "T.V. for movie people."

Comparing the representation of two cultural icons (edit)

There’s Superman and there’s the Batman. Both icons have become part of the cultural stamp that comes factory printed on the tabula-not-really-quite-so-rasa minds of infants.

That is to say, most children know who Superman and Batman are before they can open their eyes or even spit-up well. There are very few things like this. The other notable one, research shows, before they are even born, most children know Darth Vader is Luke's father. (Except my fiancée Erin who grew up in a house with two sisters. So I spoiled it on accident. Geez, I'm sorry.)

But I'm getting off the point. There are many areas with which to contrast these two comic book icons, but I mean to point out one, undeniable fact; while the image of Batman is iconic and strong in and of itself, it serves only to be enhanced by a movie.

Superman, while bold and dynamic and powerful, I do not be to be so. Not in a movie. He is a man in red underwear. He looks great in print but in real life movie form?... I am not yet convinced.

Observe.

A. I'm just not so sure I'm sure about this.
B.
Now this is more like it.

Plus, after Alex Ross's Superman, I can not see any other incarnation and take it as seriously as I do Ross's. But that's that.

The History of The Blue Goblet

Most of this new project of mine is underwraps (and still in my head) but I wanted to post a drawing from the new book I am working on that tells the history of The Blue Goblet.

The History tells the story of a young exile named Anatolia, how the Blue Goblet figures into everything, where The Beast came from and more.

The Beast

Infact, here's something even more cool; I've got someone writing music for it. Stay tuned.

Illustration Friday: "Cats"

Actual size something like, 14 in. x 20 in.

An incomplete drawing dedicated to my old roommate, H.B. Kammer.

And Ben's cat, Kitty, makes an apperance, which is why --she being a cat-- this makes it as my Illustration Friday: "Cats" post. She is "cat" in the singular, not "cats. "

However, I believe the magnitude of the beast makes up for her singularity well.

sneak sneak...

"bleet bleet," go the sheep.

And they were as popcorn in the sight of that great beast.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Kammer has left the building.

Good-bye Ben.

Mino's End

The completed Minotaur piece.

And the beginnings of another one;

being a companion piece to this one:

One Was A Minotaur... and liked it that way.

Another update. Here's the young queen portion nearly done. I'm just going to let it sit for a little while, I'm feeling much better about it this time. She was on shaky ground before but I think things are coming together.

Here's another screenshot to show the whole piece, flanked nicely by the greatest, for my money, guitar/drums duo ever.

And for what she's worth, my pretty hamster Ophelia. She's big.

And my roommate of about 48 more hours, Henry Ben Kammer.

We discovered the other night that we both love croutons. We've lived together since November 1 and only just found that out? Sheesh.

Ben is moving on and going to England for two months.

And the U.K. will be the very much richer for him.

Where The Minotaurs Are

I poured the evening into this piece and I'm so pumped about it I can't even wait til it's all done to post it. It's like a shot of something fizzy just surged into my brain and drove things batty. That, or a secret new technique...

So, here's works in progress.

Davy Jones's own photoshoot

Armed with naught save two pistols, a blunt machete and a ruler we were...

Hopstank Kammer, the roughish Jack Ketch, and the indominable... oh what was his name?

I strike my ulitmate pose for the evening.
