Pressure washed

The work on the tree house continues. This entry details the pressure washed stage.

Before. The oldness and the grayness.

Robert, my co-conspirator in this endeavor pressure washing.

Above, check out the 3DS wiggle pic of this event.

And one more!

Disorienting cleanliness.

And finally, the result of all the washing: the clean, cabin-like look new wood. Enjoy.

Hard to believe the difference!

OPERA DRAGON

I'm keeping a steady pace on my 2012 sketchbook, Menagerie. I'm juggling projects and other things but still, managing to keep on track.

Here's a peek at the finished drawing for one of those aforementioned, operatic dragons.

The rough.

The finished drawing.

ABCs of North Ghana

I recently received my copy of The ABCs of North Ghana, the charity art book put together in large part by the efforts of my friend Mike Boldt.

I'll post pictures of the book later this week. To preview the collection you can follow this link!

Here again in my piece, letter D.

Cosmos

The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it. But the way those atoms are put together. - Carl Sagan, Cosmos.

I like to listen to stuff while I work. I tend to enjoy audiobooks or movies. For movies or documentaries, the best kinds are of the sort that the ideas are captivating enough that I can mostly just listen and still be engaged.

I just finished listening to Carl Sagan's Cosmos. I throughly enjoyed it. I'm sad it's over.

Then I thought, "Hey, I want to do some Carl Sagan fan art."

So I did.

Then of course there's this thing. I love this thing.

Comobulate interview

I did a recent interview with Combobulate magazine. You can click over and read it for yourself here:

* * *

Or here's my favorite question. I think it was a pretty good one.

What has been your biggest struggle as an artist?

I think for many it’s similar: building my visual vocabulary to match my ideas. This sentiment is perfectly expressed by Bouguereau: “And can there be such anguish compared to that felt by the artist who sees the realization of his dream compromised by weak execution?” - William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

That's the real trick, isn't it?

New door!

I've got a couple of friends helping me out with this tree house project. One of them happens to be an architect! He's designed (and is in the process of building) a door for the tree house.

The house is in great condition and in fact the only weather damage is in the door way (where there's never been a real door). This should take care of that.

Behold! The terrible fury of Jon!
And here you can see his design.

Chu?

If only I could house a for real Pikachu in this thing.

Here is a brief tour of the establishment.

Next time I'll post some of the progress on the interior as well the door design! Enjoy.

Fat-headed dragons

A new drawing (in progress) from my Menagerie sketchbook.

Dragons singing their fire-breathing hearts out. These are operatic creatures.

I've had this particular piece in the series planned for months. It's a part of a three piece set within the sketchbook.

The thumbnail.
Above. "LALALAAAAAAAAAA."

I showed the drawing to my wife this morning and she looked it for a second and said, "You and your fat-headed dragons."

I guess they are a little big-headed. But fat-headed? I don't know, come on, is that mean? Offensive?

Oh, whatever, I'll take it. What do I care.
