musical pixelation + trolls

I don't know about you guys but it's really rainy here and it's the sort of dampness and cold that gets in your bones. Also, my desk lamp bulb went out. It's dark and cold and a Monday.

But! I had to pass this along -- this music just turned my day around :

Crystal Castles, Untrust Us :

and it made me scribble out some fat, naked trolls dancing and playing music :

I can only hope it will do the same for you.

viking

I've been at work the last couple days, working, using my arm in a sling and generally making myself look funny to my co-workers, but it is possible to work with limited motions in a sling.

A sort of stupid looking physical therapy. But it's working, I am getting more movement back.

Here's the first thing I doodled when I got back.

And poetically, it's on the same piece of paper that I drew one of the last things I drew before surgery; notice the edges, it's some extra grass for Esther's album cover.

* * *

My motion has been limited the last few days. I haven't been able to start final drawing work on the Grimm show yet but I feel up for it tonight. My schedule for the show is, naturally, compressed but I've got a decent working schedule planned and if I hit certain dates everything will be fine. I'll keep you posted.

ursus arctos horibillus - illustrated.

My friend Ben recently wrote a list full of wisdom over on the Portland blog,

"Top Ten Things to Never Do With
or Without an Ursus Arctos Horriblis."

I decided to illustrate it. Enjoy.

Monday meeting notes.

It's been a while since I've posted my notes from our company meetings.

Without delay, here they are:

the dragon suit

I have a ridiculous idea for next years' Comic-Con: a guy in a suit.

Specifically, Ben Kammer in a suit. I designed it on our turbulent plane ride back.

Behold:

We'll see. At least it wouldn't be half as bizarre as that guy with a Curious George doll trying to get people to high five it.

sketchbook doodles at Comic-Con

Justin celebrated a birthday while we were in San Diego for Comic-Con. He left our booth for a while that day and came back with two sketchbooks. He said he was going to celebrate hobbit-style and give presents. Worked for me.

Here's a sampling of my "behind the booth" doodles while the likes of Boba Fett, Batman, and various anime characters with unpronounceable names shuffled, slunk, and squealed past.

Enjoy~

Pipe Organ Melody

I've been working on a few unrelated pieces. Here's the rough pencil for one of them.

This is an idea, a simple one, that I've had it in me to do for a long time. And I just got around to (having the power) to do it. The other two I'll post eventually. The one is nearly painted and finished the other is just as rough as this dragon one.

Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: "Punchline"

"HAW HAW! GET IT?"

This is an old doodle from around two years ago but the idea still gets me.

electric blue chalk

Earlier in the week, Erin and I and some friends of ours went to a park and grilled. There was around a thousand children at this park as well as one piece of electric blue sidewalk chalk.

I brought it home and drew a monster in my driveway.

little tiny one

Dang! Only one little tiny one today. And a weird one at that.

There was a job that consumed most every working second today. Usually there's a nice cushion of screw around time built into the system and from there comes blog posts but not today.

This is a doodle off a meeting. Sometimes we get a print out at meetings. It makes me feel professional.

office/studio/luxury wing: site B

I have a fantastic room at our house for all my work and stuff.

Below, you'll find pictures of it. You'll see some work, some stuff, and pictures of our garage which I've commandeered for oil painting.

figure doodles

Here's a handful of loose figures. These are some of the doodles around the edges of a couple other pieces, larger in scope and scale, and hopefully more significant things I'm working on. I'll post more on that in the future sometime.

It dawned on me the other night while working that I either need to seriously improve my figure drawing or quit. Everyone makes up little crutches to hide problems with their drawings (except Michaelangelo) and I've got a ton of them.

The worst part is though, in the end it takes longer to invent these shortcuts and eventually getting around to fixing them than just working hard in the first place.

So, here's to figures.

stringed instrumnet

Above, notes during a recent meeting.

And for anyone who ever believed my hair has never been long here is proof to the contrary. This was many months ago.
